Cruise Itinerary Options

Two programmes on MS Acamar, both full board with an Egyptologist. Departures run on Mondays and Fridays; an 8-day programme is also offered.

1
Aswan · Day 1 Aswan sights, then aboard

Your guide meets you in Aswan for the High Dam, the Unfinished Obelisk and Philae Temple on its island, then you board MS Acamar for lunch. The afternoon is a felucca under sail around Elephantine Island, and the first night is spent tied up at Aswan. Lunch is served as soon as you are aboard.

2
Aswan · Day 2 Sailing north to Kom Ombo

A sailing day, which is the point of a cruise rather than a coach tour: the bank moves past while you are at breakfast. Kom Ombo in the afternoon, the only temple in Egypt built twice over and split down the middle between Sobek the crocodile god and Horus the elder.

3
Aswan · Day 3 Edfu, and on towards Luxor

Edfu, the best-preserved temple in Egypt: the Ptolemies built it over 180 years and the sand that buried it afterwards kept the roof, the walls and the colour. Back on board for the run north through the lock at Esna towards Luxor.

4
Aswan · Day 4 Luxor: the West Bank, then ashore

Across to the West Bank for the Valley of the Kings, the terraces of Hatshepsut Temple and the Colossi of Memnon, then Karnak and Luxor Temple before you disembark and transfer on. A sunrise balloon flight can be added on the last morning if you want the valley from the air first.

5
Luxor · Day 1 Karnak, aboard, and Luxor Temple after dark

You meet your guide in Luxor for Karnak, added to by pharaoh after pharaoh for two thousand years, then board MS Acamar for lunch. Luxor Temple comes in the evening, lit and largely empty, which is the better time to see it.

6
Luxor · Day 2 The West Bank, then cast off

The Valley of the Kings, where the New Kingdom pharaohs were cut into the rock, Hatshepsut's three terraces built into the cliff, and the Colossi of Memnon. Back on board for lunch, and the ship sails for Edfu while you eat.

7
Luxor · Day 3 Edfu and Kom Ombo

Edfu by horse carriage from the mooring to the Temple of Horus, the best-preserved in the country. Then back aboard and on to Kom Ombo, the double temple shared between Sobek and Horus the elder, before the overnight run south to Aswan.

8
Luxor · Day 4 Aswan

Breakfast on board at Aswan, then the High Dam, the Unfinished Obelisk still lying in its quarry, and Philae Temple, which was moved island to island in the 1970s to save it from the water. Lunch, dinner and the last night on board.

9
Luxor · Day 5 Check out in Aswan, or carry on to Abu Simbel

Breakfast, check out, and transfer wherever you are going next in Aswan. Abu Simbel can be added here as an optional excursion at the end of the programme - it is the natural place for it, since you are already as far south as the cruise goes.
