Tour Route
Can you see Cairo and Luxor in 2 days from Hurghada?
Yes, the headline sights, if you accept two very full days. The flights save you the long drive to Cairo and the trip on to Luxor, so most of your time goes to the sites. You see the Pyramids, two museums and Luxor's main sights, but not Islamic Cairo or Luxor Temple.
Only the last leg, from Luxor back to Hurghada, is by road. Luxor is much closer to the Red Sea than Cairo is, which is why the trip flies out and drives home, and why you end the trip without a third flight.
Why visit both the Grand Egyptian Museum and the Egyptian Museum?
They show different things. The Grand Egyptian Museum near the Pyramids now holds the complete Tutankhamun collection and many of the largest statues. The older Egyptian Museum in central Cairo keeps a huge range of objects from every period, in a building that has been the home of Egyptology for more than a century.
What is the best time of year for this trip?
October to April is the most comfortable, with mild days in both Cairo and Luxor, though it is also the busiest and most expensive season. In summer Luxor is very hot by midday, so the West Bank morning matters more. Bring sun protection and water in any season.
How is this different from the Luxor day trip and the other 2-day trips from Hurghada?
Day two covers the same Luxor sites as the Luxor day trip from Hurghada, but you reach Luxor by plane from Cairo after a day at the Pyramids. It is the only 2-day trip from Hurghada that pairs Cairo with Luxor; the others pair Luxor with Aswan or Abu Simbel.
If Cairo is your main interest, the 2-day Cairo trip by plane spends both days there. With one more night, the 3-day Egypt highlights trip adds Abu Simbel and a night in Aswan to the same Cairo and Luxor sights.
Tour Itinerary
Both days are full: day one is a flight and three big Cairo sites, and day two is a morning flight, four Luxor sites and the road home.
Our representative picks you up from your hotel in Hurghada and takes you to Hurghada Airport for the flight to Cairo. At Cairo Airport your private Egyptologist guide meets you with an air-conditioned car, with mineral water and soft drinks on board, and you head to Giza.
The Great Pyramid of Khufu, built around 2560 BC from more than two million stone blocks, is the last standing wonder of the ancient world. Your guide then takes you to the Great Sphinx and the Valley Temple of Khafre, where the king's funeral rites are thought to have begun.
Close to the Pyramids, the Grand Egyptian Museum is the largest museum in the world devoted to one civilization. Its highlights include the colossal statue of Ramesses II in the entrance hall, the Grand Staircase lined with royal statues and the full collection of objects from Tutankhamun's tomb.
Lunch is included at a restaurant that looks out over the Pyramids or the Nile. It is a needed break in a busy day, and a chance to try Egyptian dishes and ask your guide about what you have seen so far before the drive into central Cairo.
The Egyptian Museum on Tahrir Square opened in 1902 and still holds a vast collection of statues, coffins and everyday objects across two floors. After the visit you check in to your 5-star hotel in Cairo for the night; dinner is not part of the program.
After breakfast you check out and we drive you to Cairo Airport for the flight to Luxor. At Luxor Airport our representative and your guide meet you with a private air-conditioned car, and you cross to the West Bank, where the kings of the New Kingdom chose to be buried.
In the Valley of the Kings your ticket opens a selection of the 63 known royal tombs. Next is Hatshepsut's temple, rising in three terraces against the cliffs, and then the Colossi of Memnon, two seated statues of Amenhotep III about 18 meters high.
A short boat ride across the Nile takes you to lunch on one of Luxor's river islands, and lunch is included. It is a calm hour on the water between the West Bank tombs in the morning and Karnak in the afternoon.
Kings added to Karnak for some two thousand years, honoring Amun, Mut and Khonsu. Your guide walks you through the pylons and the Great Hypostyle Hall. Then a private air-conditioned car drives you from Luxor back across the desert to your hotel in Hurghada.

It starts at your hotel in Hurghada, where our representative picks you up early on day one for the drive to Hurghada Airport. It ends with a drop-off at the same hotel on the evening of day two, after the drive from Luxor.
The price covers the flights from Hurghada to Cairo and from Cairo to Luxor, one night in a 5-star Cairo hotel with breakfast, two lunches, a private Egyptologist guide, private air-conditioned transfers with water and soft drinks, entrance fees to all sites in the program, and taxes. Dinner and tips are not included.
Yes. Your guide and car are private to you and your companions. The per-person price falls as your group grows, because the guide, car and transfer costs are shared, and it changes by season, mainly because domestic airfares and hotel rates rise in winter and over Christmas and New Year.
Entry to the Giza Plateau is included, but going inside the Great Pyramid needs its own ticket, which is not part of the standard program. If you want to go in, tell us when you book and we will tell you whether it can be added and what it costs on your date.
Yes. Avicon Travel is a Class "A" travel agency licensed by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism under License No. 1962 and registered since 2010. Our office and team are in Karnak, Luxor, so the guides, drivers and cars on this tour are our own local team, not a booking desk abroad.
