Tour Overview

This private day trip takes you from Sharm El Sheikh to Cairo by air and brings you back to your Sinai hotel the same night. Cairo is a long drive from the southern tip of Sinai, so the two domestic flights are what make a single day realistic. On the ground, an Egyptologist guide and private car take you to the Giza Pyramids and Sphinx, the Grand Egyptian Museum, the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square, Al Muizz Street and Khan El Khalili. Flights, lunch and tickets are covered.

Tour Highlights

  • Two short domestic flights replace a long road journey across Sinai and under the Suez Canal, which leaves most of your day for the sights instead of travel.
  • Walk around the Great Pyramid of Khufu, raised around 2560 BC and the last of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World you can still visit.
  • Face the Great Sphinx and step inside Khafre's granite Valley Temple while your guide explains how a royal burial at Giza was prepared.
  • In the Grand Egyptian Museum, see the colossal Ramses II and the complete Tutankhamun collection, displayed together in one building for the first time.
  • Spend the late afternoon in Islamic Cairo, walking Al Muizz Street past Fatimid and Mamluk monuments into the crowded alleys of Khan El Khalili.

How do you get from Sharm El Sheikh to Cairo in one day?

You fly. Cairo is roughly 500 kilometers from Sharm by road, along the Sinai coast and under the Suez Canal, so driving there and back in one day leaves little time for the sights. A domestic flight in each direction turns it into a workable day with room for Giza, two museums and the bazaar.

What will you see on the Cairo day trip from Sharm?

Five stops between the two flights, with every entrance ticket on the program paid. They run from the Old Kingdom pyramids of around 2500 BC to the medieval streets of Islamic Cairo, so in one day you see both the ancient and the living city.

  • Giza plateau: the Great Pyramid, the Sphinx and Khafre's Valley Temple.
  • Grand Egyptian Museum: the Hanging Obelisk, Ramses II and the Tutankhamun galleries.
  • Egyptian Museum: the historic national collection in Tahrir Square.
  • Al Muizz Street and Khan El Khalili: Fatimid Cairo and its old market.

What should you pack for a same-day flight from Sharm to Cairo?

Your passport comes first. Add walking shoes for the sand at Giza and the long museum floors, a hat and sunglasses, and a light layer for the plane. Cairo evenings in winter are cooler than Sharm, and shoulders and knees covered is the respectful choice in Islamic Cairo.

Why does the price change by season and group size?

The two flights are the largest part of the cost, and domestic fares climb from October to March, peaking over Christmas and New Year. Your guide and car cost the same for one person or a full group, so the per-person price drops as more people travel together. May to September is usually lowest.

What other trips can you book from Sharm El Sheikh?

If you want Cairo at a lower price and do not mind a long ride, there is a road version. If one day feels too rushed, a two-day trip adds Saqqara and the Citadel. And for a day back on the Red Sea, the reefs of Ras Mohammed are close to Sharm.

Compare the Cairo day trip from Sharm by bus, the 2-day Cairo tour from Sharm by plane with a night in a 5-star hotel, and the Ras Mohammed snorkeling trip for a sea day after the city.

Tour Itinerary

Expect a full, early day: a flight to Cairo in the morning, Giza and the new museum before lunch, the Tahrir museum and Islamic Cairo after it, then a flight back to Sharm at the end of the day.

1
Morning Pickup in Sharm and flight to Cairo

Our driver collects you from your hotel in Sharm El Sheikh and takes you to Sharm El Sheikh Airport. Your tickets are already booked, so bring your passport and a small day bag. When you land in Cairo, your Egyptologist guide is waiting with a private air-conditioned car.

2
Morning The Giza plateau and the Great Pyramid

From the airport you head west to Giza, the royal cemetery of the 4th Dynasty. Khufu's Great Pyramid was built here from more than two million stone blocks and stayed the tallest structure people had made for almost four thousand years. Your guide covers how it was quarried, moved and aligned.

3
Morning The Sphinx and Khafre's Valley Temple

Lower on the plateau sits the Great Sphinx, cut from the natural rock with a lion's body and a royal head usually identified as Khafre. Beside it, Khafre's Valley Temple is built of massive granite pillars and walls. This is where the king's body arrived before the funeral procession up the causeway.

4
Late morning The Grand Egyptian Museum

The Grand Egyptian Museum stands at the edge of the plateau, close enough to see the pyramids from its windows. The Hanging Obelisk marks the entrance, Ramses II fills the atrium, and a grand staircase lined with royal statues climbs to the galleries, including the halls given to Tutankhamun.

5
Midday Lunch looking at the Pyramids or the Nile

Lunch is included at a restaurant with a view of the Pyramids or the Nile. It is a good moment to sit in the shade, refill your water and ask your guide about anything the morning raised before the afternoon in the city center.

6
Afternoon The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square

Across the river, the Egyptian Museum has held the national collection since the early 1900s. Its galleries are still full of statues, sarcophagi, papyri and jewelry, many in the original wooden display cases, which gives the building a character the new museum does not try to copy.

7
Late afternoon Al Muizz Street and Khan El Khalili

The day ends in the historic heart of the city. Al Muizz Street was laid out as the main avenue of Fatimid Cairo in the 10th century and is lined with mosques, schools and public fountains. It leads into Khan El Khalili, a 14th-century bazaar for lanterns, spices, silver and coffee.

8
Evening Flight back to Sharm El Sheikh

Your car takes you to Cairo Airport for the flight back to Sinai. When you land in Sharm El Sheikh, our driver meets you and drives you to your hotel. You get back late, so plan a slow next morning by the pool or on the beach.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about this tour. For anything else, message us on WhatsApp — we reply fast.

Where does the Cairo day trip from Sharm El Sheikh start?

It starts at your hotel in Sharm El Sheikh. Our driver takes you to the airport for the flight to Cairo, your guide meets you on arrival, and at the end of the day a driver brings you from Sharm airport back to your hotel. Send us your hotel name when you book.

Does the price include the flights, lunch and entrance tickets?

Yes. You get return domestic flights between Sharm El Sheikh and Cairo, hotel and airport transfers, a private air-conditioned car, an Egyptologist guide, lunch, mineral water and entrance fees to every site in the program. Tips, shopping and anything outside the program are not included.

Is this a private tour, and why does the price vary?

Yes. The guide and car in Cairo are for your group only. Because their cost stays the same whatever the group size, the per-person rate falls as more people join. Domestic airfares also rise in the cooler months, so the same trip costs more from October to March than in summer.

Do I need my passport for the flight from Sharm to Cairo?

Yes. Foreign travelers need a passport to check in for domestic flights in Egypt, and it is the document security staff ask for. Keep it with you for the whole day, not in your hotel safe, since you pass through airport security in both Sharm El Sheikh and Cairo.

Is Avicon Travel a licensed tour operator?

Yes. Avicon Travel is a Class "A" travel agency licensed by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism under License No. 1962 and registered since 2010. Our office and team are in Karnak, Luxor, so the guides, drivers and cars on this tour are our own local team, not a booking desk abroad.
