Tour Overview
This is about two hours on a quad bike in the open desert around the Giza Pyramids, with the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure on the horizon as you ride. A private air-conditioned car brings you from your Cairo or Giza hotel and back, and an Egyptologist comes along. It is the fastest, loudest way to see Giza, and the opposite of our guided half-day pyramids tour, which walks you among the monuments.
Tour Highlights
- Ride a quad bike for about two hours across the sand and rock of the desert around Giza, with the three pyramids in sight along the way.
- See Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure lined up from the desert side, the long-distance view of the plateau that most visitors only see in photographs.
- Take photographs of the pyramids with open desert in the foreground, a very different picture from the one you get at the busy main entrance.
- Have an Egyptologist with you, so the riding comes with some context on who built the pyramids and how the plateau was laid out.
- Travel there and back in a deluxe private air-conditioned car from your Cairo or Giza hotel, with bottled water on board.
Tour Route
How is quad biking different from the other Giza experiences?
Quad biking shows you the pyramids from the desert around them, at speed and from a distance. The half-day tours take you to the foot of the pyramids, the Sphinx and the Valley Temple, and a camel ride covers the same views at walking pace. If you want the monuments up close, this is not the right choice on its own.
Do you need experience to ride a quad bike at Giza?
Most travelers on a Giza quad ride are beginners, and the riding is done for the views rather than for speed or stunts. Tell us when you book if anyone in your group has never driven a quad or is nervous, and we will confirm how the ride is set up for first-timers on your date.
What should you wear for quad biking in the desert?
Dress for dust, sun and wind. You sit low and close to the sand, and a group of quads raises a lot of it, so clothes you do not mind getting dirty are the right choice.
- Clothing: long trousers and a long-sleeved top to protect your skin from sun and sand.
- Face: sunglasses or goggles and a scarf or buff to cover your nose and mouth.
- Shoes: closed shoes or trainers; sandals are a bad idea near footrests and hot sand.
- Valuables: keep phones in a zipped pocket, since bumps can shake loose anything that is not secured.
What else can you do around the Giza Pyramids?
Quad biking fills a morning or a late afternoon, which leaves the rest of your time in Cairo for the monuments themselves, for a slower way of seeing the plateau, or for a very different view of it from the air.
To walk among the pyramids with an Egyptologist, book the half-day Giza Pyramids tour. For a quieter ride at walking pace, choose the camel or horse ride at Giza, and for the view from above, the paramotor flight over the pyramids runs on selected winter weekends.
Tour Itinerary
A short outing built around the ride itself: the drive out, about two hours on the quad, and the drive back.
A deluxe private air-conditioned car collects you from your hotel in downtown Cairo or the Giza area, with your Egyptologist on board and bottled water in the car. Hotels in other parts of Cairo can be added for an extra charge. Tell us your preferred time of day when you book.
At the starting point near the plateau you are matched with your quad. If you have never driven one, say so and ask for a run-through of the controls before you set off, and take a few slow minutes to get the feel of it. Ask your questions here, before the engines start and talking gets harder.
The ride heads out across the open desert around the plateau, with the pyramids appearing and disappearing behind the rises in the sand. Expect dust: it is part of the experience, and a scarf or buff over your nose and mouth helps a lot, especially if you ride behind other quads.
From the desert side, the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure line up across the skyline. This is the moment for photographs and for your Egyptologist to explain how the three tombs were built over three generations of one royal family, between about 2600 and 2500 BC.
After about two hours of riding you return to the base and your driver takes you back to your hotel in Cairo or Giza. The quad, guide, transfers, water and all taxes are already paid, so you only need money for tips and any extras you add.

The car and guide are for your group alone. Because they cost the same whether two or eight people travel, the per-person price falls as your group grows, and it changes slightly by season. Prices start from {price} per person.
Tell us how your group would like to ride when you book, including the ages of any children, and we will confirm the options for your date. Some travelers prefer their own quad, while others, especially parents with younger children, would rather ride together on one bike.
