Tour Overview
This is an evening at the Giza Pyramids after the crowds have gone: the Sound and Light Show, where colored lights and projections play across the pyramids and the Sphinx while a narrated story, told in the Sphinx's voice, walks you through ancient Egyptian history. Your show ticket, private air-conditioned transfers from your Cairo or Giza hotel and dinner at a Nile-view restaurant are included. Unlike our daytime Giza tours, there is no guide and no walking on the plateau.
Tour Highlights
- Watch the three pyramids and the Great Sphinx lit up against the night sky, a view of Giza you cannot get on any daytime tour.
- Hear the history of the pharaohs told as a story, narrated by the voice of the Sphinx, which has watched over the plateau for some 4,500 years.
- Sit in the open-air seating area facing the Sphinx, with Khafre's pyramid rising directly behind it as the lights move from monument to monument.
- Finish the night with dinner at a restaurant overlooking the Nile, included in the price along with your show ticket and bottled water.
- Ride in a private air-conditioned car from your hotel to the show, on to dinner and back, with no taxis to arrange after dark.
Tour Route
Is the Giza Sound and Light Show worth it?
Yes, if you see it as an evening out rather than a history lesson. The narration is theatrical and the effects are simple by modern standards, but sitting under the floodlit pyramids at night is a different Giza from the hot, busy one you see by day. With dinner included, it fills an evening with no planning.
How is the show different from a daytime pyramids tour?
A daytime tour puts you on the plateau with an Egyptologist, walking around the pyramids and down to the Sphinx. The show keeps you seated at a distance, at night, and tells the story through narration and light. It works best as an addition to a guided visit, not a replacement for one.
Which language is the Sound and Light Show in?
The show is presented in several languages, with different languages scheduled at different performances through the week. Tell us your preferred language when you book, and we will match your evening to a performance in that language where the schedule allows, or suggest the nearest night that works.
What else can you do in the evening in Cairo?
Cairo stays busy late into the night, and the show is only one way to spend an evening. If you are building a few days around Giza, mix one evening at the plateau with a night on the river and a daytime visit with a guide.
See the plateau by day with the half-day Giza Pyramids tour, spend another evening on the Cairo dinner cruise on the Nile, and if your trip continues south, the Karnak Sound and Light Show in Luxor tells the story of Egypt's largest temple.
Tour Itinerary
An easy evening with three parts: the drive to Giza, the show, then dinner by the Nile before you are taken back.
Our representative collects you from your hotel in downtown Cairo or the Giza area in a private air-conditioned car, timed so you reach the plateau before the show begins. Hotels in other parts of Cairo can be added for an extra charge. Bottled water is in the car.
The show is watched from an open-air seating area near the Sphinx, looking up the plateau toward the pyramids. Your ticket is already paid, so there is nothing to queue for. Bring a warm layer in the winter months, when Giza evenings turn noticeably cold once the sun is down.
The Sphinx narrates the story of the plateau: the kings who built the pyramids, the gods they served and the long centuries since. Lights and projections pick out each monument in turn as the story reaches it. First staged in 1961, it is one of the longest-running shows of its kind in Egypt.
After the show you are driven to a restaurant overlooking the Nile for dinner, which is included in the price. It is a relaxed end to the evening and a good chance to try Egyptian dishes you may not have met yet, with the city lights on the water.
Your driver takes you back to your hotel in Cairo or Giza. The show ticket, dinner, transfers, bottled water and all taxes are already paid, so the only money you need is for tips and any drinks or extras you add yourself.

Our representative collects you from your hotel in downtown Cairo or the Giza area in a private car, takes you to the show and then to dinner, and drives you back afterwards. Hotels elsewhere in Cairo can be added for an extra charge. Send us your hotel name when you book.
Your ticket to the Sound and Light Show, dinner at a Nile-view restaurant, private air-conditioned transfers from your Cairo or Giza hotel, bottled water, and all taxes and service charges. There is no Egyptologist guide on this evening tour. Tips and personal expenses are not included.
The car and representative are for your group alone; the show audience is shared, as at any performance. Because the transfer costs the same for two or eight people, the per-person price falls as your group grows, and it changes slightly by season. Prices start from {price} per person.
Dress for an open-air evening in the desert. Summer nights are warm, but from roughly November to March the temperature drops quickly after sunset, so bring a jacket or a warm layer. Comfortable shoes are enough, since the seating area is reached on foot from the entrance.
