Is the Hurghada quad bike safari worth it?

Yes, if you want a break from the beach and a look at the desert that starts just behind the hotels. In one outing you get a long quad ride, a camel ride, time in a Bedouin village, a desert sunset and dinner. It works well as a contrast to the sea days on the same trip.

It is an active day rather than a relaxing one. You spend a good part of the afternoon driving over sand, so expect dust, noise and some bumps. If you want a calmer evening, the village, the sunset and the dinner give you that at the end.

What is the desert near Hurghada like?

Hurghada sits on the edge of the Eastern Desert, the dry land that stretches from the Red Sea coast west toward the Nile Valley. It is not only soft dunes: much of it is gravel plains, dry valleys and bare, rocky mountains that glow orange and red in the late light.

Bedouin families have lived in this desert for generations, moving with their animals and knowing the land's few water sources. Visiting a village gives you a small window onto that way of life, even if today's villages also welcome visitors like you.

What should you wear for a desert quad safari?

Dress for dust, sun and a cooler evening. You start around midday in strong sun and finish after dark, when the desert can feel much colder than the coast, so plan layers and cover up against the sand.

  • Shoes: closed shoes or trainers, not sandals.
  • Clothing: long, light trousers and a top you do not mind getting dusty.
  • Face: sunglasses and a scarf or buff to keep sand out of your mouth and nose.
  • Evening: a light jacket or sweater for dinner after sunset.
  • Sun: sunscreen and water for the afternoon ride.

What else can you do in Hurghada?

After a day in the desert, most visitors balance it with the sea, or with a long day out to the temples of the Nile Valley.

For the reefs, book the private snorkeling trip in Hurghada or try discover scuba diving with a one-to-one instructor. For history, the Luxor day trip from Hurghada takes you to Karnak and the Valley of the Kings.

Tour Itinerary

An afternoon and evening outing: a midday start, a long quad ride into the desert, and sunset and dinner at a Bedouin village.

1
Midday Pickup by air-conditioned vehicle

Around midday, a private air-conditioned vehicle collects you from your hotel in Hurghada and drives you to the quad bike station at the edge of the desert. Wear closed shoes and clothes you do not mind getting dusty, and bring sunglasses and a scarf to cover your face from the sand.

2
Quad station Meet your guide and your quad

At the station you board your quad and meet the tour guide who rides with you. Take a minute to get used to the throttle and brakes before you set off, and ask anything you are unsure about. The group then heads out together into the desert behind your guide.

3
Afternoon Quad ride across the desert

The route covers 45 km of desert driving there and back, across sand and rocky ground in the Eastern Desert, the dry land between the Nile Valley and the Red Sea. Away from the hotels the coast disappears quickly, and you are left with open sand and bare mountains in every direction.

4
Bedouin village Camel ride on the sand

At the Bedouin village the program includes an hour-long camel ride on the desert sand. After the quads it is a very different pace: slow, quiet and high above the ground, with time to look around and take photographs of the desert from the saddle.

5
Bedouin village Tour of the village with your hosts

Your Bedouin hosts welcome you and show you around the village, introducing their way of life in the desert. It is a chance to see how families live far from the town and to ask questions. Afterward, settle in for the evening with your hosts and the other guests.

6
Evening Sunset and BBQ dinner

As the day ends you watch the sun go down over the desert from the village, then sit down to a BBQ dinner with your Bedouin hosts, with the last of the sunset as your backdrop. The evening stays lively, with your hosts and the group gathered together before it is time to leave.

7
Return Back to your hotel in Hurghada

After dinner you head back to the station and then return to your hotel in Hurghada. The transfers, quad ride, village tour and dinner are already paid, so you only need cash for tips and anything outside the program.
