Is a private snorkeling trip in Hurghada worth it?

It is worth it if you want the sea on your own terms. Your group does not fit around a crowded cruise, you choose the area, and the instructor works with you rather than with a deck full of people. That suits first-time snorkelers, families with children and couples who want a calm, unhurried day.

How is this different from the shared snorkeling trip and Orange Bay?

All three are snorkeling days from Hurghada, but they are built differently. This one is private, the shared trip is a cruise with other guests on a set route, and the Orange Bay day is shaped around one famous beach. Pick by how much privacy, choice and beach time you want.

  • Private snorkeling trip (this page): your group only, a private vehicle, a professional instructor, and your choice of Mahmya Island, Giftun Island or the dolphin area.
  • Shared snorkeling trip: a snorkeling cruise with other guests to Giftun Island and the national park, with an English-speaking guide and a buffet lunch aboard.
  • Orange Bay trip: a boat day centered on the white sandbank at Orange Bay on Giftun Island, with long beach time and a separate child price.

Mahmya, Giftun or the dolphin area: which should you choose?

Choose by what matters most to your group. The dolphin area is the pick if seeing dolphins is the goal. Giftun Island suits a mix of reef stops, beach time and water sports inside the national park. Mahmya Island suits a day built around an island beach. If you are unsure, tell us who is traveling and we will suggest one.

What should you bring on a Red Sea snorkeling day?

Snorkeling equipment, lunch and drinks are on the boat, so you only need personal things. Pack light, keep valuables at the hotel, and plan for strong sun on the water even when the breeze feels cool.

  • Swimwear: wear it under your clothes so you are ready at the first stop.
  • Towel and dry clothes: for the deck and the drive back to your hotel.
  • Sun protection: reef-safe sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses.
  • Seasickness: a tablet before boarding if boats bother you.

What else can you do in Hurghada?

If a private trip is more than you need, or you want a second day at sea, Hurghada has other ways into the water.

For a lower-key group day, see the shared snorkeling trip to Giftun Island, or spend more time on the sand with the Orange Bay Island snorkeling trip. To go below the surface, try discover scuba diving in Hurghada with a one-to-one instructor.

Tour Itinerary

One day on the water at your group's pace: a private drive to the jetty, several snorkeling stops, island time and lunch at sea.

1
Pickup Private transfer from your Hurghada hotel

Our representative meets you at your hotel in Hurghada and drives your group in a private vehicle to the jetty where the boat leaves. Tell us when you book which area you want, Mahmya Island, Giftun Island or the dolphin area, so the day can be planned around that choice.

2
Morning Board the boat and meet your instructor

At the jetty you board and head out across the Red Sea. Your professional instructor checks that each mask, snorkel and pair of fins fits, explains how the stops will work, and helps anyone new to snorkeling feel settled before the first swim. Mineral water and soft drinks are on board all day.

3
At sea Snorkel at several coral spots

The boat stops at different spots chosen for their coral and fish, and wild dolphins live in these waters too, so keep watching between stops. You float above reef gardens full of color, with the instructor close by in the water, and dry off on deck whenever you want a break.

4
Midday Island time and water sports

When your day includes Giftun Island, there is time on the beach and for the water sports there, inside the national park around the island. This is the slower part of the day: swim straight from the sand, rest in the shade, or go back into the water for another look at the reef.

5
Lunch Open buffet lunch on the boat

Lunch is an open buffet served on board, so you eat at sea between swims. Tell us about any allergies or diets when you book. The meal, drinks, equipment, instructor and all service charges and taxes are already part of the price.

6
Return Back to the jetty and your hotel

When the day at sea is over, the boat returns to the jetty and your private vehicle takes you back to your hotel in Hurghada. The only extra costs on the day are tips and anything outside the program.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about this tour. For anything else, message us on WhatsApp — we reply fast.

Where does the private snorkeling trip pick you up?

Our representative collects you from your hotel in Hurghada in a private vehicle and drives you to the jetty where the boat leaves. At the end of the day the same private transfer brings you back to your hotel. Send us your hotel name and your chosen area when you book.

What is included in the private snorkeling price?

Hotel pickup and return, all transfers by private vehicle, snorkeling equipment, a professional instructor, an open buffet lunch on the boat, mineral water and soft drinks, and all service charges and taxes. Tips and anything not listed in the program are not included, so bring a little cash for those.

Is the trip private, and why does the price vary?

Yes. The vehicle, the instructor and the day's plan are for your group only, and you choose the area. Because those costs are shared among fewer people in a small group, the per-person price falls as your group grows, and it also changes by season. Prices start from {price} per person.

Will you definitely see dolphins?

No one can promise it. The trip gives you a chance to see dolphins and swim near them, and choosing the dolphin area gives you the best odds, but they are wild animals that move freely. Even on a day without dolphins, the coral spots and island time make a full day at sea.

Is Avicon Travel a licensed tour operator?

Yes. Avicon Travel is a Class "A" travel agency licensed by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism under License No. 1962 and registered since 2010. Our office and team are in Karnak, Luxor, so the guides, drivers and cars on this tour are our own local team, not a booking desk abroad.
