Tour Overview
This is the fastest way to see Cairo from the Red Sea: you fly from Hurghada to Cairo in the morning and fly back the same evening, instead of spending the day on the road. A private Egyptologist guide and car meet you at Cairo Airport for the Giza Pyramids, the Grand Egyptian Museum, the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square, Al Muizz Street and Khan El Khalili. Both domestic flights, hotel transfers in Hurghada, lunch and entrance fees are included.
Tour Highlights
- Swap the long desert highway for two short domestic flights, so more of your day goes to the Pyramids and museums and less to sitting in a vehicle.
- Stand at the foot of the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World still standing, with a private Egyptologist beside you.
- See the Great Sphinx up close and walk through Khafre's Valley Temple, built from huge blocks of pink granite and still roofed in places.
- Meet the colossal Ramses II in the Grand Egyptian Museum atrium, then see Tutankhamun's treasures displayed together in their own galleries.
- Finish in medieval Cairo on Al Muizz Street and in the lanes of Khan El Khalili, a market that has traded since the 14th century.
Tour Route
Plane, private car or bus: which Cairo day trip from Hurghada is right for you?
All three cover Giza and the Grand Egyptian Museum with a private guide. The difference is how you travel. By plane you skip the long road each way and arrive fresher, but it costs more. By road the trip is cheaper, and you spend a large part of the day in the vehicle.
If you prefer to stay on the ground, the Cairo day trip from Hurghada by private car keeps the same car and guide with you from your hotel, and the Cairo day trip by bus uses first-class coach seats with a private guide in Cairo. To see Saqqara instead of central Cairo, look at the Pyramids and Saqqara trip by plane.
Which sights does the Cairo day trip by plane cover?
Five stops between the two flights, with every entrance ticket included in the price. Together they span four thousand years and run from the Old Kingdom pyramids to medieval Islamic Cairo, the same program as our bus trip and two stops more than the private car trip.
- Giza plateau: the three main pyramids, the Sphinx and the Valley Temple.
- Grand Egyptian Museum: Ramses II, the Hanging Obelisk and the Tutankhamun collection.
- Egyptian Museum: the historic collection in Tahrir Square.
- Al Muizz Street and Khan El Khalili: Islamic Cairo and its old bazaar.
What should you bring on a same-day flight to Cairo?
Your passport is essential for the domestic flights. Wear comfortable shoes for the sand at Giza and long museum floors, and pack a hat, sunglasses and a light layer for the plane and the evening. Cairo is often cooler than Hurghada in winter.
Why is the price higher in winter?
The two flights are most of the cost, and domestic fares rise from October to March, with a peak over Christmas and New Year. The price per person also drops as your group grows, because you share the same guide and car. May to September is usually the lowest season.
Tour Itinerary
A long but efficient day: an early flight north, Giza and two museums before and after lunch, Islamic Cairo in the late afternoon, then an evening flight back to the coast.
A driver collects you from your hotel in Hurghada and takes you to Hurghada Airport for your flight to Cairo. The tickets are booked for you, so you only need your passport. At Cairo Airport, your private Egyptologist guide and air-conditioned car are waiting.
The plateau holds the three main pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure plus six smaller queens' pyramids. The Great Pyramid was raised for Khufu around 2560 BC and stood as the tallest building on earth for thousands of years. Your guide explains how it was planned, quarried and built.
The Sphinx was carved from the bedrock of the plateau with a lion's body and a king's head, most often linked to Khafre. Next to it, Khafre's Valley Temple was where the king's funeral began and his body was prepared before it was carried up the causeway.
A short drive from the plateau, the Grand Egyptian Museum lines up with the pyramids. You pass the Hanging Obelisk at the entrance, meet the 11-meter Ramses II in the atrium and see the Tutankhamun galleries, where the young king's full burial collection is shown together.
Lunch is included at a restaurant overlooking the Pyramids or the Nile, a welcome sit-down after a morning on your feet. Take the time to rest out of the sun and drink water, because the afternoon moves on to central Cairo.
Opened in 1902, the pink museum on Tahrir Square was the home of Egypt's antiquities for over a century. Its two floors still hold royal statues, painted coffins, jewelry and everyday objects spanning thousands of years, many shown in their original wooden cases.
Your guide takes you into Islamic Cairo. Al Muizz Street was the main avenue of the city the Fatimids founded in 969 AD, lined today with mosques, domes and old houses. Beside it, Khan El Khalili is the place for lanterns, spices, brass and a glass of mint tea.
Your guide and driver take you to Cairo Airport for the return flight. In Hurghada, our driver meets you at the airport and drives you back to your hotel. It is a late finish, but you sleep in your own room by the sea.

Yes. The price covers return domestic flights between Hurghada and Cairo, airport transfers, a private air-conditioned car and Egyptologist guide in Cairo, lunch, mineral water and soft drinks, and entrance fees to every site on the program. Tips, shopping and anything outside the program are extra.
Yes, it is private: the guide and car are only for your group. The per-person rate falls as more people join, since the guide and car cost the same for one or eight travelers. It also changes with the season, because domestic flights cost more from October to March.
For one day, usually yes. Cairo is more than 450 kilometers from Hurghada by road, so a road trip means a very long day in the vehicle. Flying costs more, but you arrive fresher and the program has room for Islamic Cairo and Khan El Khalili.
